…grifters gonna grift!

We learn from two advisors in today’s Washington Post (paywall) Pruitt’s numerous transgressions exceed anything ever witnessed before.

The totality of Pruitt’s offenses is beyond the pale.

I’ll say. This petty grifter needs to slither back to whatever sh*thole state he’s from and wait for a trial date to be announced.

Meanwhile, courtesy the Guardian (looming paywall), we get a glimpse of how the grifters in the White House used their so-called “charitable foundation” as a personal piggy bank, according to a lawsuit filed by the attorney general of the state of New York earlier today.

Me? I love the quote in the New York Times citing text from the suit itself:

“As our investigation reveals, the Trump Foundation was little more than a checkbook for payments from Mr. Trump or his businesses to nonprofits, regardless of their purpose or legality,” said Barbara D. Underwood, New York’s attorney general…

The article in the Wall Street Journal (paywall) was equally damning:

The lawsuit, filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan, calls Mr. Trump’s foundation “little more than an empty shell” and accuses it of repeatedly violating laws that govern charities.

Lastly, we read in an article from the Washington Post:

Underwood also asked that Trump be banned from leading any other New York nonprofit organization for 10 years — seeking to apply a penalty usually reserved for the operators of small-time charity frauds to the president of the United States.

Yup, we’ve got an entire administration full of grifters. Petty, narrow-minded, greedy thieves, all clamoring for every penny they can illegally pilfer from the pockets their fellow Americans. Every single one of these criminals should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Oh, cuck!

It sure looks as if President Trump was hoodwinked in Singapore.

New York Times (paywall) columnist Nicholas Kristof opens with this depressing thought in an opinion piece published earlier today.

…it’s still bewildering how much Trump gave and how little he got.

Of course! I had no doubt this narcissistic buffoon was going to be completely out-maneuvered – anyone expecting otherwise is simply delusional! We all watched slack-jawed while a petulant, short-sighted, intellectually stunted television personality pandered to cameras instead of doing his homework and pushing hard for meaningful concessions during the few hours he spent in the same room with that sad, little, pot-bellied sociopath.

…at least in the first round, Trump seems to have been snookered.

Indeed. The American taxpayers spent untold sums to fly our simpering senior citizen president* halfway around the world and what – precisely – did we get for it? Nothing of consequence. Impeach this cuck before he has a chance to do more damage!

As Above, So Below…

Yes, of course, it’s an obscure reference to a 37 year-old ditty, but so what?

The Guardian (looming paywall) exhorts us to be eternally vigilant with respect to normalizing the abnormal president* who illegally co-opted the Electoral College, as will most assuredly be proven in the months ahead…

Meanwhile, the New York Times (paywall) references a Reuters story pointing out Trump’s ill-advised claims of being above the law when he is so, so far below!

An opinion piece by the Editorial Board of the New York Times (paywall) argues Trump is seeking absolution for blowing the midterm elections and they haven’t even happened yet!

On June 6th, the New Yorker (paywall) ran a piece comparing a pair of distractible doofus’es to one another, separated by a full century – oh how quickly we seem to forget! :-(

I thought the Wall Street Journal (paywall) did a credible job describing yet another indictment handed down by a federal grand jury on Friday, June 8th, charging former Trump campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, with additional crimes.

Jennifer Rubin, a Washington Post columnist (paywall), posed five questions every Democratic candidate for Congress needs to pose to their complicit Republican counterparts between now and the midterm elections in November…

Lastly, Ken Gormley, a guest opinion writer at the Washington Post (paywall), pointed out a so-called self-pardon merely proves criminal behavior on the part of this most sh*tty president*.

Rambo & Ritalin

Residents, (and yes, politicians), of Texas are less likely to agitate for gun control than those in Florida. At least that’s my interpretation of the underlying premise found in an article I read in today’s New York Times (paywall).

Citizens in Florida mobilized after a high school shooting three months ago, triggering a nationwide wave of protests against gun violence and calls for stricter legislation, but the sentiment in southeast Texas this weekend strikes me as rather fatalistic, with residents, (and yes, politicians), desperate to place blame on anything except guns!

Oliver North blamed mass shootings on violent movies and overuse of psychiatric drugs like Ritalin.

Yup, Mr. North wants you to believe Rambo© and Ritalin® have more to do with these tragedies than bullets do… What a f*cking idiot!

Surprisingly, a survey conducted last fall in the Lone Star State tells a slightly different story:

Polling shows the state’s voters are more split on guns than popular culture might indicate. According to an October [2017] poll by the University of Texas and The Texas Tribune, more than half of the registered voters surveyed said gun control laws should be stricter.

Intriguing. If the majority, (“more than half”, right?), are in favor of gun control, why hasn’t anything of consequence been done? Could it be the [somewhat] strident tone set in articles like this one proving to be a tad bit off-putting to the average gun-toting zealot? Sure, I can see it now… “Hey, here’s what we journalists need to do. Go grab the first redneck you can find and get ’em to say something stupid – and I mean truly stupid – then print it!” Bingo.

Robert Ross, 69, who has lived in Santa Fe [Texas] all his life blamed the shooting on what he called ‘cultural decay’…

Oh, but wait – we’re not done with Mr. Ross yet, oh no, no, no, not even close… He proceeded to tick off a list of the real culprits for last Friday’s massacre when speaking to the reporter:

…abortion, gay marriage and the separation of church and state.

Yeah, Mr. Ross even said it’s likely Satan had something to do with it. OK, so let’s unpack this, shall we? According to Robert, a woman’s right to choose, sexual orientation and a liberal interpretation of the First Amendment are all contributing factors to the deaths of 8 children and 2 adults on Friday. …and let’s not forget about “…the devil made me do it!” defense – that one got thrown in right at the end of the article!

Meanwhile, the Washington Post (paywall) ran a story with the phrase ‘You can do this with anything’, only to disappoint by claiming details of this past Friday’s tragedy “complicate” the debate surrounding gun control. Bullsh*t. Let’s not split hairs, shall we? …but let’s not succumb to demonstrating false equivalence either. Referring to the Times article once more, guns are most assuredly not the same as knives!

Beware the overly-simplistic, (and simple-minded), claims firearms used for hunting, sport and self-defense are entirely acceptable, whilst semi-automatic weapons, armor-piercing ammunition, so-called “bump-stocks”, high-capacity magazines, etc., etc., etc. are not. Every single one of these devices are incredibly dangerous, period. The rationale for someone owning any firearms is specious – at best – and downright laughable most of the time. Hunting? Target shooting? Self-defense? A necessary safeguard for zealous patriots who nervously await invasion?

There are more registered weapons in Texas than in any other state, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives…

Sure, two hundred and forty years ago one had to be concerned about wolves, bears and mountain lions, not to mention the bands of marauding French, British and Spanish threatening our shores, but let’s face it folks, who among us goes out to bag Bambi for dinner these days? Nobody. Hunting is a choice, not a necessity. Kroger’s solved that particular problem for the nation, oh, I dunno, about a century ago! Sport? What on earth do you need target practice for, exactly? The bogey man, I guess… Again, a choice, not a necessity. Worried about invasion? You’re just the type of person who shouldn’t own firearms! Self-defense? Explain to me exactly how a bunch of unloaded firearms locked up in a tamper-proof vault down in the basement, or out in the garage are of any use when the bogey man comes calling? Nope, not gonna swallow that one either. …and yet that’s precisely what the gun rights lobby would have you believe. It’s all complete and utter bullsh*t!

Dana Loesch, [NRA spokesperson] said Friday that “there is not a single firearm law that would have prevented any of this.”

Sadly, I view her statement as more of a triumphant declaration than a somber lament. You’re right Dana, there aren’t any laws that could’ve prevented last Friday’s tragedy in Texas, or March’s tragedy in Florida, or any of the 14 other school shootings this year.

Your despicable organization made sure of that.

Houston, we have a problem…

…because we’ve been here before. Ten innocent people murdered this morning at a rural high school southeast of Houston; the sociopath responsible now in custody; flaccid platitudes proffered by complicit politicians all day long…

Again.

Yes, we find ourselves on this all-too-familiar path to perdition…

Again.

Guardian

…is the 16th school shooting this year that resulted in injury or death.

Yes, it happened. Again.

New York Times

It was the deadliest attack on an American school campus since February…

…since February? Anyone else shaking their head in disbelief? Why the need to qualify this statement with “…since February”?

Yes, it happened. Again.

New Yorker

…a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, carrying a handgun, had arrived at the school as the reporters had, to give interviews holding forth on the Second Amendment, and to explain how the best solution to school violence was more guns.

Wow. The degree of callousness this sad excuse for an American exhibited is beyond belief.

Wall Street Journal

…is the country’s ninth fatal shooting in 2018 on school grounds, including college campuses and excluding suicides, according to Everytown for Gun Safety, a group that advocates stricter gun laws.

Gruesome statistics, by any measure.

Washington Post

Many of the 1,400 students had staged a walkout April 20 as part of a nationwide protest against school shootings… One sign carried by Santa Fe students during their April protest read “#NeverAgain”.

Four Fridays later, their school was attacked.

Yes, it happened. Again.
